Market news for May 2014

Another busy month May is behind us where we have seen more than double the sales compared to last year’s same period. Increasingly alluring deals are inviting buyers cashing in since prices remain competitive.

In naked figures 55 have been reported sold in May reflecting a 53% increase compared to last May 2013 when only 29 yachts have been sold. By far the most yachts have been motor yachts in amount 52 versus only 3 sailing yachts. The total length increased by 903m compared to last year’s motor yacht sales, 1836m in total. The average asking prices of the yachts sold since beginning of the year remains on an even keel. Mainly the larger yachts exceeding lengths of more than 50m+ have actually increased. Other interesting figures are that only 6% of yachts sold were not older than 3 years, whereby 29% have been 7-10 years old and 44% yachts sold more than 10 years old. These demonstrate that buyers are not over looking well maintained, older yachts and it is still condition, quality and competitive asking prices that prevail.
